This is a new author to me. I was reading a woman's magazine and ran across a listing of books by this author and was intrigued. The story did not disappoint although it was sadder than I thought. Without giving anything away, the story is about the reindeer keeper and a family's journey through the circles of life. One family's history of several of its members tells of their childhood traumas to coming to grips with those traumas in adulthood and dealing with death and life as adults. This is a unique twist on a Santa Clause story. While I shed a few tears, I also was fascinated by the imagination of this author and the beautiful telling of dealing with death and grief. Certainly a story not to be missed!

Story is intense and has both sadness and joy. It's one I will keep in my library to read each holiday season. It reminds us what is important and how precious shared times are between family and friends.
While the premise is interesting, despite its sadness, the characters are too simplistic. It is easier to believe in Santa Claus.
Love, love, love this book so much. I hope this author continues to write more books. A great read no matter what time of year. Although it does put you in the CHRISTmas spirit.
I thought it was a great story - though the title was a little misleading. The story seemed to center more on the reindeer keeper's chosen helper than the reindeer keeper himself. However, the story was well-rounded - part magic (making one want to believe) and part human struggles and triumphs. I really enjoyed getting to know each of the characters. I recommend this book highly.
This was a wonderful book, however, all of it was not a warm fuzzy Christmas book like I expected. It is very well written and really makes you think.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Just a sweet story with a lot of depth and goodness throughout. I'm not much of a book reader, but I really could not put this down. Great at Christmas time when I certainly need to remember what is really important in my life. Thank you, Barbara for this great read. Hope you have more stories like this to share.
