First of all, I have to say that Jessica McClain is one of the best characters ever created. She is strong, smart and has powers like no other. I devoured the books, I literally could not stop! This is how my obsession started. I didn't know about this series before I read Sin City and Phoebe Meadows. I liked Amanda Carlson's writing so much that I decided to give it a try. And I was not disappointed. I am a huge fan of Kristen Painter, and if you are as well and you read all the books, this is the best possible course of action. Don't get me wrong, the style, characters and stories are completely different, but the great writing and the fantastic heroines and supporting characters are all there. And villains, they are so mean, they really keep Jessica fully occupied.
This is the beginning of the change for Jessica, and that's how the book starts. After the change is one giant roller coaster of non-stop action. It is all consuming, and with that I refer to my time, because I could not stop. the story draws you in and it doesn't let you go. I managed to take a little break after the third book to write this.
Jessica is still new to her change and a bit clumsy but amazingly determined and a fighter to the end. We meet Rourke, I will not say anything else because you should experience ti for yourself. Then there is this irritating cop Ray. We meet her twin Tyler, and her dad Cullum, second in command James, enforcer Danny, and her friends and business partners Nick and Marcy. There are several of the villains introduced and they all get their own moment at some point. I am mentioning all of these, as they all develop throughout the story later on.
Series reading order is: Blooded (Jessica McClain, #0.5), Full Blooded (Jessica McClain, #1), Hot Blooded (Jessica McClain, #2), Cold Blooded (Jessica McClain, #3), Red Blooded (Jessica McClain, #4), and Pure Blooded (Jessica McClain, #5).

Full Blooded Jessica McClain Amanda Carlson 9780316205207 Books Reviews
This book was slow going to get into, and I nearly set it aside and gave up. I don't ever do that, so I continued to read. But have to comment that the up front writing of the first four chapters or so was trite, over-adjectived, and heavily borrowed from a variety of sources. Too, too many adjectives.
About the time of her first real fight in her "form" the story picked up. The adjectives became less frequent, there was more showing than telling. I settled in to enjoy the ride, and I did.
I liked, nay loved, the inner monologue going on between her and her wolf. Not so much the one between her brother and her. Their "thought" monologue was way too wordy and "complete" in sentence structure, it was just jarring and not smooth.
That said, story was still good and held up. All the way until the end. One of the most abrupt and frankly cowardly endings I have ever witnessed an author write. And I don't mean cowardly as in courage of the characters. The characters were in mid-scene, for Pete's sake. The author just stopped writing!! You know how it's very common in all writing styles to end one chapter on a cliff-hanger and conclude it at the start of the next chapter? Maybe after a wise ass remark from the lead? That's how this book ended. There is ZERO excuse for this as an ending to a book. It is a BLATANT rip off to get the reader to buy the next book. I find it inexcusable, and incomprehensible. I do not understand how an editor or an author can think that the readers will be ok with that.
I get that more and more authors are writing trilogies or series. I have no issue with that. I invest in characters, the good ones, and I like to see them come back for another round. But you end the dad blasted story. Yeah you may leave threads hanging. Minute threads that were added subtly throughout the story for the bigger picture. You don't just stop writing on the main thread in the current story and leave it for the next book. I really don't think I've ever been this offended.
So, the only real way I can express my displeasure and unhappiness is to post this review, warn away other readers, and not give the author, the editor, and the publisher any more of my money. Here's hoping that book two ends better for those continuing the journey and that its not as harsh a cliff at the end as book 1.
Full Blooded is the first book in Amanda Carlson's Jessica McClain series and ends with a big cliffhanger!
There were some things I really liked about this book
1) Jessica's character was interesting and she was strong but not over the top.
2) All the secondary characters which were written very well and integrated throughout the book
3) The Hero - I want more!
4) The plot was interesting and I want to know more about the Cain Prophecy
But there were some things I really didn't like
1) Jessica's inner dialogue with her wolf (it just came across as strange)
2) Jessica spent almost the whole book telling her wolf no, it's not the time
3) Even though she's suppossed to be wicked strong she never really got a chance to do much - the pack had her constantly running away so they could "take care of her"
4) Jessica now knowing anything about being a werewolf or their culture - come on yes they didn't think she'd ever become a werewolf but she is the Alpha's daughter and lived with the pack until she was 18.
5) I didn't buy that she would be that tormented as a girl - her dad was the alpha and while she may have been ostricized I don't believe she would have been physically tormented.
So overall, I liked it but I didn't love it. The things I didn't like really frustrated me but I want to know more so I will be reading the next book.
